DAY THREE: Since 2007 2000 Trees has established itself as a haven for musical creativity. But music isn’t the only art form celebrated across Upcote Form. Every year a group of fervent art students spend set up week creating impressive art installations to be admired across the festival.

Thanks to the vision and expert guidance from both Holly and Dan the art group have already created a stunning TREES installation that will greet you all once you’ve grabbed your wristband from wristband exchange.

The now iconic tree in the centre of the main arena has also had the artistic treatment decorated with nostalgic Polaroid pictures and a flurry of 2K wristbands dating back to 2010.

As heart-warming as it was to spend time hunting down the wristbands from our respective first years here, the tree is beaten only by a paint-spattered ‘2000 Trees’ sign with matching lightning bolts due to take residence at Room No. 7 soon.

Aside from the bigger projects this team has undertaken so far, they are also responsible for smaller hand-painted signage, stage monitor covers and much more.

So if you were wondering who makes 2000 Trees such a beautiful festival, it’s these guys.

Thanks for making our Instagram accounts pure fire art team. We salute you.

DAY TWO: Yesterday, whilst the crew were building bars, putting up stage tents and constructing huge art installations there was a whole other crew, hidden away in the forest. They built their own stage and instruments and were pretty adorable whilst doing it. The Forest School was in full swing.

Introduced to the site last year, the Forest School welcomes a group of little-rockers to Upcote Farm to create something quite remarkable in the space just along from the wonderful Forest Session stage.

I took a stroll down to their patch yesterday afternoon, curious to see what they were up to, and found a microphone being constructed from tree bark, fairy house doors being made and a wooden drum kit complete with sticks.

Eventually one kid suggested collecting moss from the forest trees to put on the floor in front of their stage. In a pit. A moss pit.

Frankly, that’s one of the best things I have ever heard from such a young soul.

I went to check out their product at the end of the day to find the moss pit in all its glory, with a helpful sign just in case the pun went ignored. If that’s not the purest thing to happen this week, I don’t know what will be.

2000 Trees Festival everybody. All are welcome.

DAY ONE: I’ve been waiting a year to write this: I’m back at Upcote Farm, the home of 2000 Trees Festival.

This time last year I arrived at this site, to help during set up week for the very first time, and was instantly struck with the community-spirit love-bug. What followed “was one of the best weeks of my life” (direct quote from the letter I wrote afterwards) and I was left with no doubt whatsoever that 2000 Trees would become one of the most important dates in afterLIVE’s calendar.

Today I saw it written amongst a large pile of laminating (because I’m damn handy with a laminator) that “2000 Trees is an independent festival trying to do things right.”

It’s as simple as that.

Reasonably priced tickets, ethical traders selling good quality food, a belting line-up with good late-night entertainment and an inclusive feeling that welcomes literally everyone.

I’ve been at 2000 Trees 2017 for under 12 hours at time of writing and I am overjoyed to tell you that all of those core values are still here.

The main stage is up, the beers are in the fridge (there are a l-o-t of them), the sun is beaming and today John arrives. John makes us food. John’s the best.

Guests won’t arrive until Thursday, but 2000 Trees 2017 has well and truly begun.

There is no other place on earth that I would rather be.
